5 Elements of Inner Beauty

As I thought about what I should write for the very first blog for the site, I was stuck. I wanted it to be good. Of course, right? When I started my first blog years ago, I wrote the first article then decided to start the blog as a result of what I wrote. It was that easy. I was surprised at how challenging it seemed to gather what I felt should be the first blog for Inner Beauty Reigns.

Then it hit me: It should be foundational to what IBR is all about. I realized that since this platform is about sharing what inner beauty is about, then it was only fair to be transparent but informative in my approach to writing to you all. I thought about five qualities that are important to have or cultivate when it comes to personal development. Now, although Inner Beauty Reigns is geared towards women, personal development is for everybody! The five elements that I chose are based on my experience in dealing with people, whether in public or private.

Integrity

Contrary to popular belief, honesty and integrity are not one and the same. Honesty is the ability to be forthcoming and truthful. Integrity speaks to a level of morality that is grounded and consistent. Honesty gets you in the door, integrity keeps you there. It is a beautiful feeling to be trusted as a person of integrity, but it only takes one occurrence of breaking someone’s trust in you to throw it all away. Stay grounded.

Confidence

So many people struggle with confidence. I believe this is hinged on the fact that we rely entirely too much on the opinions of others in order to believe in ourselves. Confidence is rooted in what YOU believe about yourself. Studies have shown that those who are confident in themselves, are generally more successful than others, even when they don’t actually possess the skills necessary to make it happen. Believe in yourself, especially when it feels like no one else does.

Kindness

I often hear people talk about how bad the world has gotten. Although this is true, my experience has been that when you extend yourself to and for others, it is often appreciated and much needed. In a world full of negativity and strife, it is imperative that we treat each person we meet with kindness and consideration. I often remind my daughter that our interactions with others could be the difference between them going off the edge. That doesn’t make us responsible for their actions. It is simply a reminder to treat each person with kindness. The bible also reminds us: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2, NIV)

Patience

We live in what has come to be known as a “microwave society”. We want everything instantaneously. This conditioning has caused being patient to become a lost art with many. Having the ability to wait things out without complaining is not as hard as you may think. It does require you to be intentional and you must be willing to think before you speak. If you have a complaint, being tactful is important, as well as directing the complaint to the party who can actually help fix your issue.

Intelligence

There is nothing like knowing that you’re dealing with a person who has the knowledge to get something done. It is even more rewarding to have that interaction with someone who may not know how to get it done, but are willing to seek out the information and resources to make it happen. Intelligence is a key factor of success, and is also something that is sure to make you stand out from the rest.

Each of these characteristics are elements that I believe are not only foundational to having inner beauty, but necessary for being successful. When you know how to interact with others and understand how to execute your skills and abilities in harmony with others, you build great relationships and attract opportunities that will propel you forward.
